Perry is Perry is a Chicago native birthed to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. Her first roles on television were two appearances on the show as Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) in her role on the ABC sitcom Roseanne, the character portrayed by her mom. The actress did not go on to pursue acting as a career until after she had reached adulthood, as her parents were concerned about the adverse consequences stress can be a cause of. Perry states that she did not want to be an actor in high school, but she decided to begin performing as a form of social interaction at Northwestern University when she switched from Boston University. Perry began her career with New York after graduation, performing in minor role on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. But homesickness made Perry return to California and find work as a theater actress. Perry's mother and I appeared on Broadway together as part of The Other Place, in 2013. In 2015, she performed with her father and Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning film Anna Christie in the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. Perry appeared in 9 episodes on ABC's drama The Family during 2016. In 2017 she had her own recurring part on her own ABC drama about politics Scandal with her father. The same year, she played a young version of Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory) as her mother as a young version. The role was offered to her through an open audition despite being connected to this character.
